چکیده

Aedes scapularis is a neotropical mosquito known to transmit pathogens of medical and veterinary importance. Its recent establishment in southeastern Florida has potential public health implications. We used an ecological niche modeling approach predict the abiotic environmental suitability for Ae. across much Americas Caribbean Islands. Georeferenced occurrence data obtained from Global Biodiversity Inventory Facility collection records southern served as input model calibration. Environmental layers included bioclimatic variables provided 2000 2010 average Modern Era Retrospective-analysis Research Applications climatic (MERRAclim) data. Models were run software program Maxent. Isothermality values often found costal environments, had greatest contribution performance. Model projections suggested that there are areas predicted be suitable Scapularis portions Amazon Basin, Yucatán Peninsula, multiple Additionally, predictions connectivity highly or relatively environments spanning United States Gulf Coast, which may facilitate geographic expansion this species. At least sixteen counties scapularis, suggesting vigilance needed by vector control agencies recognize further spread vector.

Four synthetic mosquito repellents (Autan [10% KBR3023], IR3535 [7.5%], Off! [15% deet], Skinsations [7% deet]) and eight natural (primarily plant extracts and/or essential oils) product-based repellents (Bite Blocker [2% soybean oil], ByGone, GonE!, Natrapel [10% citronella], Neem Aura, Sunswat, MosquitoSafe [25% geraniol], and Repel [26% p-menthane-3,8-diol]) were tested in the laboratory aga...

Discovery, distribution, and abundance of the newly introduced mosquito Ochlerotatus japonicus (Diptera: Culicidae) in Connecticut, USA.

The earliest documented specimen of an exotic east Asian mosquito Ochlerotatus (Finlaya) japonicis japonicus (Theobald) in the Western Hemisphere is reported along with the results of a state wide survey to determine the distribution and abundance of this mosquito in Connecticut. Ochlerotatus japonicus was collected from 87 locations in eight counties. It is established throughout the state and...

Different responses of two floodwater mosquito species, Aedes vexans and Ochlerotatus sticticus (Diptera: Culicidae), to larval habitat drying.

Insect larvae that live in temporary ponds must cope with a rapidly diminishing resource. We tested the hypothesis that floodwater mosquitoes would react to diminishing water levels by accelerating larval development time and emerging as smaller adults. Since a reduction in habitat size leads to increased larval densities, we also included two larval densities. Newly-hatched floodwater mosquito...

Genetic and morphological variation in three snow pool Aedes mosquito species of the subgenus Ochlerotatus (Diptera: Culicidae).

Thirteen Aedes hexodontus Dyar populations from throughout the western United States were examined for genetic and morphological variation. Analysis of allozyme frequencies at 16 loci revealed a pattern of genetic variation that formed a north-south cline across Washington, Oregon, and California in the number of alleles per locus, the percent of polymorphic loci, and the frequency of one allel...
